2024 Great Backyard Bird Count Results

Another successful Great Backyard Bird Count is in the books! Over four days, over 600,000 individuals from all over the globe overcame the winter doldrums to embrace the opportunity to connect with birds and nature.

GBBC 2024 in a snapshot:

  • 7,899 species of birds identified 
  • 209 participating regions 
  • 298,100 eBird checklists 
  • 156,238 photos added to Macaulay Library 
  • 600,000+ estimated global participants

The following feeder birds were observed most frequently in the United States during the 2024 GBBC:

  1. Mourning Dove
  2. Cooper’s Hawk
  3. Downy Woodpecker

Don’t let the momentum fade! While the Great Backyard Bird Count offers an intensive period of observation, backyard birdwatching can take place year-round with feeders present. Make sure to mark your calendars for next year’s GBBC, taking place from February 14-17th, 2025. Spread the word to your friends!
